Island Mix is an art emporium, artists’ hangout, waterside café and centre of inspiration for many Saint Lucian craftspeople and artisans, located on the waterfront in the heart of Rodney Bay. During the COVID-19 crisis, the range of products was extended to include locally-made food items, whilst the owners sourced material and worked with local seamstresses to produce thousands of much needed face masks for communities in the north of the island.
The pandemic revealed the extent to which we, as a nation, depend on imported goods, and also the challenges faced by local farmers and artisans in connecting with potential customers. This website was thus developed to help connect buyers and sellers, and to facilitate an increase in local trade, and thereby to stimulate the local economy.
There can be no doubt that, moving forward, Saint Lucia needs to diversify its offering, relying less on international tourism and supporting its cottage industries. This won’t happen overnight, rather it will be a gradual shift, but each of us can play a part in the short-term, by buying local produce instead of imported items from the supermarket. This website, and our Rodney Bay location, aim to make the process a little easier, acting as a marketplace for as many different goods as possible.
Please take a few minutes to browse the site, and share with others. This is a work in progress, and new items are being added daily. What else would you like to see? What do you have that you can offer? Let us know here.
Thanks for your support!
